Powers of Attorney: Medical Powers
What are Medical Powers of Attorney?
There is a chance in your lifetime that you may become seriously injured, ill, or otherwise unable to make decisions regarding your health care. If this should happen, it would be helpful to have someone designated in advance as your agent, with a Medical Power of attorney. You will want to choose a person who knows your values and in whom you have utmost trust for handling healthcare decisions on your behalf.
A Medical Power of Attorney becomes effective immediately after it is executed and delivered to the agent. It will be effective indefinitely unless:
- it contains a termination date
- it is revoked, or
- the principal (you) becomes competent.
